If you have the home version of Cysgliad you can fetch updates over the internet. If you are using the network version in your workplace, the updates will be distributed by your systems administrator or IT support department. Cysgeir and Cysill need to be updated separately.

Cysgeir can automatically check the internet for updates.

4. If there are updates available, Cysill will ask if you want to install them before leading you through the install process.

5. Close the Cysill programme.

Updating Cysgeir

1. Ensure that your computer is connected to the internet .

2. Open Cysgeir.

3. Click on the ‘View’ (or ‘Ymddangosiad’) menu, then chose ‘Options’ (or ‘Dewisiadau’)

5. Within the ‘Update’ (or ‘Diweddaru’) tab click on ‘Check now’ (or ‘Edrych Nawr’).

IProblems while using Cysgliad:

have installed Cysgliad, but can't see how to use it within Microsoft Office Word

The buttons 'Cysgeir' and 'Gwirio'r Ddogfen' have disappeared from the Word toolbar

How do I install the Cysgliad buttons on the Word toolbar ?

Using Cysgeir or Cysill within Word

2. Open the ‘Ffeil’ menu and chose ‘Gosod’, then click on ‘Gosod bar offer Word’ in the submenu.

3. Open Cysgeir

4. Click on the ‘File’ (or ‘Ffeil’) menu and go to ‘Install’ (or ‘Gosod’), then chose ‘Install Word toolbar’ (or ‘Gosod bar offer Word’) from the submenu.

5. Open Microsoft Office Word.

6. Click on the ‘View’ (or ‘Gweld’) menu .

7. From the 'View' (or 'Gweld') menu, select 'Toolbars' (or 'Bariau offer').

8. At the end of the list of toolbars, you should see 'Cysill 3' and 'Cysgeir'. If not, jump to step 9. If they are visible, make sure they are ticked. If they are not visible, click on them to add them to the toolbar. This should resolve the problem.

9. Open the 'Tools' (or 'Offer') menu in the Microsoft Office Word programme, and chose 'Templates and add-ins' (or 'Templedi ac ategion'). Ensure that the boxes next to 'Cysill3.dot' and 'cysgeir.dot' are ticked, then return to step 8.

Cysill 3 will check the spelling and grammar of the highlighted text. Further information on how to use Cysill 3 and Cysgeir can be found in their ‘Help’ menus.

NB: These instructions apply only to Microsoft Office versions of Word. The toolbar buttons will not work in Microsoft’s stripped down version, ‘Word for Works’. If you have 'Microsoft ‘Word for Works’, see the section Using Cysgliad with other programs in Windows, which explains how to use Cysgliad with ‘Word for Works’ through the medium of ‘Hotkeys’.

A Windows message window appears within Word, warning that there is a problem with the file 'Cysill3.dot'

Occasionally the Word template file ‘Cysill3.dot’ can break. Cysill needs this file to work properly within Word. Usually, when this happens, a Windows message pops up to warn that there is a problem with the file ‘Cysill3.dot’. The quickest and most effective way of dealing with this is to re-install the template;

1. Open Cysill.

3. Open Microsoft Office Word.

4. Click to open the ‘View’ (or ‘Gweld’) menu.

5. From the ‘View’ menu, select ‘Toolbars’ (or ‘Bariau Offer’).

6. A list of optional toolbars will appear. You should be able to see Cysill and Cysgeir near the bottom. If they are missing, jump to step 7. If they are there but not ticked, click on them to add them to the toolbar.

7. In ‘Word’ click to open the ‘Tools’ (or ‘Offer’) menu, and select ‘Templates and Add-ins’ (or ‘Templedi ac Ategion’) ,make sure that the boxes next to ‘Cysgeir.dot’ and ‘Cysill3.dot’ are ticked.

My computer crashes while using Cysill 3 or Cysgliad

Is Cysgliad causing the problem?

It’s possible that Cysgliad isn’t the root of the problem. Processes outside of Cysgliad may be the cause. One way of determining this is to remove the Cysgliad package (as described below), and the try to recreate the problem. If the problem remains, Cysgliad isn’t the root. If the problem has disappeared, reinstall Cysgliad and restart your computer. The problem may have been resolved during the uninstall and reinstall processes, if it persists, please contact us here at Canolfan Bedwyr by emailing cysgliad@bangor.ac.uk quoting your registration number.

Removing Cysgliad

1. From the Windows desktop, click on ‘start’ (or 'cychwyn')

2. If your computer has been installed with Windows98 or WindowsME, click on ‘Settings’ and then click ‘Control Panel’. If you have Windows2000 or WindowsXP, click on ‘Control Panel’ (or ‘Panel Rheoli’).

3. In the ‘Control Panel’ (or 'Panel Rheoli') click on ‘Add or Remove Programs’ (or ‘Ychwanegu neu dynnu rhaglenni').

4. After a few seconds a new list will appear, showing a list of programs installed on your computer. Look for ‘Cysgliad’, accompanied by a green icon in the shape of the letter ‘C’, and click on the icon, then click ‘Remove’ (or ‘Tynnu’), then follow the instructions to completely remove Cysgliad. If you can not see Cysgliad in the list, jump to step 6.

Back to the questions

I received a Windows message, warning me of a problem concerning "MAPI"

MAPI is the protocol used by programs and websites to initiate your e-mail programme for sending emails. The occasion it is used by the Cysgliad package is when a user sends an error report from the ‘Help’ menu in Cysill. Cysill will open your e-mail client (Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla, Thunderbird, Netscape Mail etc.) and open a new mail message to Canolfan Bedwyr regarding the error report. If the error does not occur when sending a message through the help menu, it’s possible that the cause of the problem lies outside Cysgliad. If the problem does occur when sending an error message from the Help menu, it’s likely that the cause lies in your Windows installation or with your default e-mail programme. If this happens on a computer that is connected to a managed or corporate network, the MAPI process may be impeded by the networks e-mail server.

If you are using a home computer and the problem occurs when you are trying to send an error message from the ‘Help’ Menu within Cysill, try removing and re-installing your e-mail programme, taking care to back-up your e-mail directory.ata first. .
